28th February 2015

It's my weekend for working and when that happens I am working from 0830 til 1700 and then on call from 1700 to 2330.  By necessity those will have to be my rest days...........or so I thought.  However, I didn't manage to get up to do my early morning run/walk yesterday morning for various reasons and so I set my alarm from 0720 this morning and convinced myself I could do a run before a long day of work.
It took all the will power I possess to get out of bed and put on my running things.  Thankfully 9yos was awake and didn't need much encouragement to get out his scooter and come with me which really made it worth while.  Once I had asked him to come there was no going back.
So I haven't missed a workout this week on the first week of my half marathon training plan and tomorrow really can be a rest day.
I had an e-mail from the organisers of the marsalling crew at Chester Marathon yesterday asking me if I wanted to volunteer again this year.  I am holding fire though because it may be that I run the metric marathon this year - that would be something!!
Onwards and Upwards.

25th February 2015

I am on a roll now.  I had a day off today and after a busy morning I went out for a three mile run in the forest this afternoon.  When I set off there were a few blue patches in the sky amongst the clouds but it didn't take long for the showers to start and then become heavy rain.  Really enjoyed the run/walk though.  I started at the car park and went down the lathe path and then connected with one of the walking routes which became quite hilly before meeting a forest track.  This then continues up the hill until a fork in the path.  Taking the right path would take me on a circuit which then evening would become a 5 mile run.  Not quite ready for that so I took the left track which brought me along the top of the wee loch and eventually back to the car park.  The run was a 3 mile run.  I ran/walked around 16 minute miles which I was quite pleased with.

23rd February 2015

I am so chuffed with myself.  I got up this morning at 0650 and was out of the door on a 1.5 mile run by 0700!  It was cold and windy although thankfully not wet but didn't take me long to get started.  I fixed my Garmin onto a run/walk mode and off I went.
The rest of the day went well on the back of that run.  I must make sure I get out at that time at least once a week.  I really feel as though I am back on track to achieve some more running goals this year and need to dig in and hold onto that.  The whole of life goes much better when I am in control like this.

21st February 2015

It was a the Galloway Harriers chip cup today - a fun race done every so often for all club memebrs.  The couple who organised it wanted to support all the runners to challenge themselves and it was a fabulous idea of pairing fastest runner with slowest runner to go opposite ways around a 10k route, turning back when they met in the middle, after having handed over a loom band.  Really great idea and I loved the run.  I was paired with the fastest runner and he ended up running just over 8 miles and I ran 3.75.  I really pushed myself with my run/walking and even managed to put in a sprint finish as I was being chased by one of the teenage girls.
I feel so much like I am back in the mind set now.  I am ashamed of how much weight I have piled back on and so much which I had kept it up from 2 years ago but this morning has shown me that I can get back - healthy eating and exercise is still the way to achieve things, even at the age of 50 and my motivation is strong for keeping this up.
Of course, it always helped when you are running through stunning Galloway scenery and in cold but sunny weather..................

19th February 2015

I ask myself how it is going since deciding 2 weeks ago to get back what I have lost.  The weight isn't really coming off fast yet but if I am honest with myself I haven't been doing so well on the healthy eating from yet.
Exercise wise I am really happy though.  I have had some lovely wee runs with my friend Marie, and alone.  These are slow walk runs, much further back than I had gotton to before stopping running but actually much better than when I started out running initially.
Yesterday we did 3 miles in the forest and that was like being back "at it".  I love being out and I love the feeling of having been out.  I just don't know I want to go out until I am out!!
Oh deary me!  This week I have been off work on annual leave and so it has been relatively easy to get out every day and do a little of something.  It is going to be more difficult next week when I am back at work and even more difficult when I go up to 30 hours a week with my job.  Determination and consistency are the keys!!

14th February 2015

Split run today.  Started to go out at 1100 but met my dad who was lost (he has vascular dementia) and so had to walk him home.  Ended up only doing about 1 mile run then.  So later on went out with Max on his scooter for 2 miles.  Really good run - slow but steady and I am on the way.  I am on annual leave next week and the plan is to run every day - even if just for a mile.  See if I can do it!!

Saturday 7 February 2015

7th Feb and the going is good!!!

Have sprained an intercostal muscle I think!!  Its painful.  However, managed a 3.3 mile run on Monday, Paper round with Tali on Thursday, 4.25 mile run/walk today and will run tomorrow.  Feeling motivated.
Got a new job on Wednesday which will be more hours but over the same days.  Hope that all works out but I am really excited about it.  I love community nursing.  There was the option of a different job interview with less hours but unfortunately spread over more days and more travelling.  So decision made.
Foodwise done well this week mostly with the odd drop off of chocolate.
Why is it so hard to eat healthily????

Jantastic

Well it's been a really long time since I posted on this blog but I want to get back into the swing of it.  For many and varied reasons I haven't been consistent with exercise and healthy eating and it is definitely showing now.

I am juggling many things at the moment and when that happens I tend to go off concentrating on what is good for me and get a bit lazy.
So it is time to get a grip again, believe in myself again and start to feel the benefits of healthy eating and exercise again.  Feels like a long way back but here goes.

I committed to Jantastic again this year and have done it much better than last year.  I commited to 1 swim and 2 runs a week and apart from week three when I forgot to log, I have done quite well.  Now for February I have committed to 3 runs a week and 1 swim and hope to get up to 5 miles before the end of February.

I registered for Troon 10k this morning as well, and that will keep me motivated.  Don't care what time I get - just want to finish and get another T-shirt.

Today I went for a run with Marie - 3.3 miles, very slow but great feeling afterwards.  Also managed mostly healthy eating today which is good considering that I have an exam and interview in a few days time so the stress levels are quite high.
